Myself and Josh had gathered initial topics that sprang to mind from our initial knowledge of Cath Kidston. After sorting these topics into categories, we turned to online resources and documented all of her previous 'conversational prints'. To extend our search we went to a Cath Kidston store and analysed the aesthetics of each conversational print in store, noting how each one differed from each other.
The design above demonstrates how Cath Kidston can expand their design aesthetics while still keeping their products tied to a range and set of designs. The contrast of colours and rich background makes it stand out among the softer, pastel colours of Cath Kidston.
In terms of our planning and primary research we were able to visually link the fact that Cath Kidston products were strongly related to a theme of Baking and home goods, as you can see from the products below and above. We also noticed that there wasn't actually any patterns that related to the goods in-store. We noticed there was no food themed patterns as of yet. And from our research, we believed there was a gap in the market that needed to be explored, We have had the idea to research into British Baking as this is something that is becoming more predominant in today's society.
Television today shows how much interest has been regained in home baking with shows like 'The Great British Bake Off' proving to be a hit. We believed we could potentially create some very stylised vectors.
